yeah the only way you're gonna be able to do that is to lower terrain height in a specific area and then cover it up with the basic shapes
i actually had an idea for a unique planet using something similar, but now that i think of it, it would also be cool if we had decorative rocks as structure pieces
honestly, SP2 strikes a very nice balance between "looking good in general" while still keeping the overall aesthetic of the original game, you can still recognize the old charm in it ❤️
i've said this before but i was never really a fan of the addition of a dedicated player character and much more preferred to have sentient vehicles like in SP and Juno (and other games such as BeamNG.drive though it has kind of a hybrid system between SP2 and SP or JNO), however i can only respect the effort and dedication put into it, especially that you managed to get a world-class 3D artist involved — hats off to everyone so far!
the Vetusta region being euro-inspired (rather than the standard US-centrism in just about every other video game ever) might just be the thing that makes me buy this game
this is genuinely so peak
@Aludra877 fine ig, things are chill for now but it's a bit of a "silence before the storm" for me as i'm getting ready for driver's license examinations and whatnot
this is very much peak
i love that you managed to mix the stereotypical one-dimensional "warrior race" or "intellectual race" aliens with actual nuance and various gimmicks that make them actually unique, well done indeed
KEEP COOKING, ABSOLUTE PEAK
one thing i did want to ask still: how will downloaded content for the game be handled? will SP2 have its own site or will simpleplanes.com be used for both?
once again, devs cooked a meal so exquisite that the Michelin-star system would need to borrow a couple from our stellar neighbourhood :P
the shape controls are really neat, i can't say much about that, but i can already tell that people will be making insane replicas and crafts that are (sometimes literally) a flying middle-finger to physics, using the custom airfoils
control surfaces being one seperate part is a genius galaxy-brain move (i can literally hear and see the meme in my head), and the new variants for it will help save on both part count and sanity because you don't have to deal with rotators and piston flopping around: just slap them on, configure, and after that... inner peace achieved
for the new fuselages, i hope that we will have the ability to use the old "Curved" corner from SP1, where non-square-aspect-ratio fuselages instead get straight sections rather than stretching an ellipse out, i miss that a lot in JNO — the rest is all great as well, especially hollow fuselages
finally, i just wanted to ask: what is that weird multi-color rainbow thing in the first and last paint slots on the last gif? my assumption is that it is an "automatic" paint tool that colors the part and its colorable elements always in the respective color, which i think would be handy if you're making a multi-section thing out of identical part types but don't want to (or cannot) use an "add section" or duplicate tool due to some reason
seems like i'll be giving my commentary for all of these....
anyways, i'm glad that a lot of the stuff from this game will be implemented, part of the reason why i don't play SP too much anymore is because a lot of things that make JNO's designer enjoyable to use just aren't there in the original, especially the color wheel
the new changes are welcome too, the paint tool is looking real good, and the ability to spawn in/edit crafts from where you left off, seamlessly and dynamically, is a very welcome change since we've been lacking this compared to, say, Scrap Mechanic or whatever (only other game with such behaviour that comes to my mind)
the overall new UI style with the rounded buttons and all those animations is really not my cup of tea though, but hey, it's clear that it was probably meant for a different target audience (and to get more moneyz), however the fact that the UI can be edited via XML might mean that i'd be able to change it to something i like more if i were to get SP2 in the future
overall, "keep cooking" or whatever kids say nowadays
@OACOTEOC the "design language" this craft uses is rather simplistic, and that includes the interior as well, which is why i went with just a rod for the joystick
however i might be able to do something if i add a base, a few buttons on it could work too
i was initially skeptical on SP2 due to the slightly "cartoony" graphics and it having an actual player character model (one that is really in the uncanny valley, in my opinion) rather than just "sentient" vehicles, but those roads, caves, and rivers are really dragging me in... the power of marketing, perhaps? XD
@Crazyman552588 regarding your custom map wishes, it is possible to do this in Juno thanks to Planet Studio, where not only can you make or modify planets but also add structures to them, which means you can make a big airport like you mentioned, though the structure components are quite primitive so don't expect flight-sim levels of detail (in SimplePlanes this is not possible by default, maybe with mods; and i don't even know what SimplePlanes2 is like so i can't comment on that)
@OACOTEOC hmm, true
whiel i would say that it's possible they're from other countries/continents (hell, i belong in that category) and may not have heard of it, but i doubt that as well since US politics and related stuff are known to just loudly barge into the international scene uninvited
i really have no idea
i can't say much, but i do know that there's a cooldown for name changes on this site, it's possible that that's preventing them from changing usernames
@DarkDust great points tbh, i agree
on a relevant note, the thing that always bugged me is that unlike KSP we can't place down flags on planet surfaces which is kinda... sad i guess? it's possible to kind of recreate this by saving launch locations in sandbox mode, but ever since we got the ability to teleport our crafts to planets, that became a rather pointless thing to do
i've been wondering about this too, i think the main reason as to why it's unpopular is simply cause KSP is such a giant that it just completely overshadows it
i think making the game more user-friendly (more/better/detailed tutorials, sample crafts, etc.) would help a lot in keeping players, as few reach a skill level high enough to really appreciate this game or even openly praise it like i do (i do some very small, free, completely unofficial advertising for JNO on some game forums i'm on, and i really do think it's that good, it's basically my number 1 favourite video game)
however the lack of updates right now is probably what's causing it to be kinda "dead" at the moment (it is like that 99% of the time though), for now the devs are working on SimplePlanes 2 so it's understandable
however, i also think that if JNO gets popular enough to get its own Wikipedia page (needs to fulfil their notability criteria and whatnot) like SimplePlanes did, it'll be smooth(er) sailing from that point on
Caotain Sawblade reminds me of the hit video game ULTRAKILL, with all the blood consumption things he's got going on
anyways, great lore as always, mine is coming along quite nicely as well but as you may know it will take a while until i release anything
3 hours agooh yeah, it's all coming together
+2 3 hours agoand having the ability to use the older systems is such a based move, truly absolute peak
