M5A1 "Stuart"

M5 series light tank is a light tank developed by the United States in 1940s. It is the successor of M3 series light tank, also known as "Stuart 6". M5 series includes M5 and M5A1 models. Among them, M5 light tank was not equipped with troops, and M5A1 light tank was installed in 1943.

The production of M3 series is in the charge of American car and foundry company. The modified M3A1 was put into service in August 1941. The M3A1 is equipped with a modified homogeneous welding turret with a power rotating device.

It has a gyroscopic stabilizer, which enables the 37mm main gun to shoot accurately in the moving process. The turret is designed with a hanging basket. At this time, there is a pilot test car body with welded body, which is called m3a1e1. The next type m3a2 also adopts welding design. Its main structure is similar to M3A1, and it is not put into production. Later, m3a3 was modified in many places, including turret, body and body gun base.

Despite complaints from users about the tank's lack of firepower, the improved M5 light tank retained its 37mm main gun. M5 gradually replaced m3 after it was produced in 1942, and was replaced by M24 light tank in 1944
