The year is 2035, humanity has established a toehold in Mars and a proper foothold on the moon. The space industry has taken off as private companies find new ways to fund the exploration and advancement if the human race. Great strides in engineering and science being funded by space tourism and government contracts. Humanity has entered the golden age of space travel. The international community has been relatively peaceful for the past decade and the UN has managed to make great strides in lasting international partnerships.

Meanwhile, roughly 327 light years away, war has broken out. The nation's of Droo are in a desperate struggle for power and survival, new weapons have been unleashed as the stakes of a never ending war increase. The Droo equivalent of the Earth UN has been dissolved as 3 major factions duke it out for global power. One particular faction had been falling behind in the war effort, it's navies and armies largely crushed in the constant fighting. They were getting desperate and so turned to technology to find a way out. The Droods had discovered how to split the atom some 13 earth years before Einstein on earth, but they had never had the reason or need to create nuclear weapons like the United States had in WW2. Now need for a new weapon was clear and a team of Drood scientists from this collapsing nation had developed a weapon that could level the playing field. An antimatter bomb. They had managed to produce 2.7kg of anti hydrogen, a positron orbiting an antiproton. 1.5 kg of the antimatter was to be used in a test of the weapon. But the only place to detonate it without alerting their enemies would have to be out of Droo's atmosphere. Brigo, Droo's closest moon, would serve as the test site. The weapon was deployed and when it collided with Brigos surface the magnetic containment failed, the anti hydrogen annihilated with the housing of the confinement chamber. All the energy inside the matter was released instantly and created a massive crater, blowing material back into Droo's atmosphere and causing a week long meteor storm that destroyed many low Droo satellites.

The test was a success but the nation's of Droo we're well aware of what was coming next. The opposing two factions did not have the time or resources to start their own weapons development projects and so hastily constructed crude dirty bombs to be used in retaliation.

The first antimatter bomb landed, 0.7 kg of antimatter annihilated, leveling several cities in an instant, the second, 1.0 kg of antimatter failed to reach it's target and instead ignited in atmosphere, it's detonation scorching a massive swath of land in nuclear fire. What came next was total annihilation, over 5000 dirty bombs were dropped, devastating the remaining ecosystem of Droo and forcing all remaining life underground. Cobalt, cesium, and iodine isotopes we're spread throughout the atmosphere. Radiation levels were beyond habitable, and any Drood who spent more than a few days on the surface would die from scute radiation sickness.

Nearly 100 years later, the levels of radiation had decayed to almost hospitable levels. There were two spots where it would be possible to start rebuilding. A small coastal peninsula that happened to be far enough away from any detonation to receive significant fallout, and a small desert valley, that was uninhabited and not a target, and whose mountains provided a natural buffer against the fallout. The Droods left their underground cities, wearing white and blue protective environmental suits to allow them to work on the surface, and started building space centers. Droo would still not be able to support more than a few hundred surface dwellers for another thousand years. If the Droods were to survive they would need to expand to the rest of the Juno system and colonize other planets.

I hope you guys liked my take on the history of Droo and the Droods. If you have any ideas for what I should add to make the lore better fit the game please comment below!

This is awesome, I had never even thought to think that an Antimatter bomb is what caused the crater on Brigo. You should definitely do more lore.

That would explain the Death Star looking crater on Brigo
(Also, more lore would be awesome!)

@DAARA Isn't that exactly what I'm doing though?

pretty good. a few other things and maybe it can be official lore.

also does humanity have any idea Droo exists? perhaps the JWST found Droo around Bernard’s Star (my alleged Juno analogue look at the dimensions)

@Vedhaspace well it's gotta be something violent to leave a dent that big.

    Very nice lore!
I was terrified when I read that the nuclear bomb blowed the crater in brigo
