Okay, hopefully, one last beta build before we go live with 0.7.0.x. I was playing SR2 a lot this weekend and I was really frustrated that the only way to view delta V after tweaking an engine is to switch to the Staging Editor. So, I added staging details to the Performance Analysis window so you can get instant feedback on your changes.

Here are the previous beta posts:

  • Version 0.7.0.0 link
  • Version 0.7.0.1 link
  • Version 0.7.0.2 link
  • Version 0.7.0.3 link

Here's what has changed since 0.7.0.3:

  • Added Stage Analysis section to performance analysis window so now you can view your Delta V without having to switch to the Staging Flyout.
  • Added throttle responses to engine types. Electric is fastest. Nuclear is slowest.
  • Fixed a bug where empty stages would show up on a craft after loading.
  • Improved glitchy sound with the RCS while in slow motion.
  • Display a message when the player clones a part.
  • Display a hint to open the part properties when the player selects a rocket engine, jet engine, or wheel, but has never viewed part properties for those parts.
  • Incorporated Tully2001's changes to SimpleBeast
  • Default altitude to 60km instead of sea level for Performance Analysis
  • Display Vacuum instead of 60km in Performance Analysis panel

How to get the beta

  • Open the Steam client and go to your Library
  • Right click SimpleRockets 2 and click Properties
  • Go to the BETAS tab
  • Select beta - Public Beta Testing from the beta dropdown

Full release notes are here.

@PhilipTarpley you've made my live much easier now, I didn't notice that the pin worked even if you change views

Thanks @Kell. I just finished a fix for that...not sure it will make it in the next release or not. If it doesn't, it will be very soon after.

@PhilipTarpley It seems to me that slow throttle response engines are messing up auto burns.

@pedro16797 Regarding your comment "...I realized how much we need the planned burn window in Flight View..." I just thought I'd point out that you can click the push-pin in the top left corner of the planned burn window and it will keep showing in flight view.

@AndrewGarrison hm, after testing it I think I can confirm that the auto-burn tends to overshoot and I think it's due to the spooling time.
Also, after testing this I've realised how much we need the planed burn window in the Flight View but I don't think you have to rush this for 0.7.0, so I'm going to wait until release to report it

    @Magaram Read the FAQ

We will begin development in early 2019. At this point, it is too early to give a release date estimate.

@MarioG Unfortunately we won't have time for that with this update.

@AnotherFireFox Yes, I was going to talk with you about de-nurfing. I ran out of time because it turns out it was a bit trickier than I anticipated (at least to do it well). I realized that this would be far better suited for a mod. Nathan is finishing up the mod support over the next few weeks. After that is released, it will be very easy to customize all of the existing engines to have independent efficiency settings. I can give you some example code to do exactly that. Also, with modding support you should be able to add new engine types, nozzle types, and fuel types (but, currently you would need to use our models).

Me likey but @AndrewGarrison could you add an option to shrink the combustion chamber independently from the nozzle, or increase nozzle diameter independently from the engine aswell? That would be really appreciated. Because these do have mesurable affects on the engines performance

I dont have time to test it right now, but does the auto-burn feature take the spooling time into account? @AndrewGarrison

@AnotherFireFox but engine response time. They were fast with that feature, I'm more than happy. The de-nerf option may imply changing the whole engine code
