They only recently became independent from a opportunity from the collapse of the Soviet Union. Even before the Communist regime was established, Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire in the reign of the Tsar.
Yeah I personally don't let the amount of Starship builds piss me off, and quite frankly they are usually pretty decent and fun. Its just you can't really make many changes in this community. Its to say the least, a very unique and small community at that.
