While the in-game Simplerockets 2 tutorials are a little bit left to be desired, the actual craft that they have you build and fly is a pretty good introduction into the basic mechanics of the game. While the craft is good in its own right, it has many flaws and lots of room for improvement. So a little while back, I got the idea of not only improving the tutorial craft, but also automating it's auto-orbit process and including telemetry along the way. So, here's what I've come up with.
The new craft has a lot more on the original tutorial craft, like the fact that you can now recover the space capsule as well as increased perfomance and burn times in both the lower and upper stages. The auto-orbit program that I developed also follows the tutorial's flight path, except it's now automated. The telemetry that has been added is also new, with a helpful display bar up top displaying things like Velocity, Altitude, Apoapsis, Periapsis, and Delta-V. Overall, I had a lot of fun working on this project and I encourage you to make your own little spinoffs of the tutorial craft too. I'm definitely going to improve this later on, probably adding an auto-deorbit sequence as well as customizable orbits. Well, that's all I have for now, so see you all in the next post.
