Chinese Navy J-15T

The J-15T is a heavy carrier-based fighter aircraft developed by China. It is a catapult-launched carrier aircraft and serves as a core weapon system in aircraft carrier battle groups, playing a vital role in the Chinese Naval Aviation Force. The aircraft features a newly designed nose radome and is likely equipped with a more advanced radar system, along with the latest air-launched weapons. Its overall performance ranks among the top tier of 4.5-generation fighters worldwide. With its enhanced radar detection range, the J-15T can carry longer-range air-to-air missiles.

To meet the unique requirements of electromagnetic catapult launches, the front landing gear has been reinforced to increase the aircraft’s takeoff weight. Electromagnetic catapults provide significantly faster acceleration compared to ski-jump takeoffs, placing higher demands on airframe strength—thus, the fuselage has also been structurally strengthened. Launching via electromagnetic catapult enables the J-15 heavy fighter to better leverage its advantages, allowing for greater maximum takeoff weight, extended combat radius, and increased weapons payload.

As the original J-15 was designed for ski-jump operations with excellent short takeoff and landing capabilities, the J-15T is expected to possess both catapult and ski-jump launch capability.
