"I wish i was a spaceman, the fastest guy alive..."

INTRO

This is an early design of the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM). "Excursion" would later be dropped from the name because it made the moon landing sound "like a school trip".

The astronauts would sit down to fly the LEM and got to the lunar surface by climbing down a rope. This design proved to be way too heavy and did not fit well into the Saturn 5 payload adapter.

The key differences between this and the flown Lunar Module are in:

  • The extra docking hatch.
  • The big quartz glass windows.
  • The circular, insulated descent stage.
  • The 5-point landing gear.
  • And the overall "Aerodynamic", rounded shape.

Notes

  • The module is not 100% stable, due to the off-center center of mass. I have found this to not be an issue when landing, but it might be one for launching.
  • The legs spazz out sometimes. Blame physics.
  • It is missing the rope ladder. Don't question.
