Auto Credit Based on IntegratedSpaceSystems's HL-2A Idaho

The ISS 500 is a 500kW, 30 ton nuclear reactor. It is designed to operate in teh vacume of space and uses large radiator fins to manage heat. The reactor has an operational lifetime of about 20 years and is ideal for manned deeepspace missions that require large amounts of electricity where solar power is not a viable option. The reactor has radiation shielding elements on the for and aft ends of the core that reduce radiation flux by 350%. The core uses molten salt in a closed loop to operate at high temperatures for extended periods of time without overheating.
