Moon 3 (Russian: Луних -3) was an unmanned lunar probe launched by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1959. It is the first spacecraft in the world to take pictures of the back of the moon. On October 7, 1959, Moon 3 sent back an image of 29 Zhen when it flew over the back of the moon, covering 70% of the back of the moon.

After obtaining these images, Soviet astronomers named the landform on the back of the moon. Luna 3 later became an Earth satellite.
