I have been working on a 2-stage Falcon 9 style auto reuse for more than a month now. It is finally done!
The JSO Sparrow 1
The JSO Sparrow 1 is the first rocket in the Sparrow series. It is fully automatic, and the first stage is reusable. The Sparrow 1 can not carry any payload. The Sparrow 2 is in progress, and will be bigger and have an improved code fit for carrying payloads. The Sparrow 2 will also be able to carry the Phoenix 2.2 Crew Capsule into orbit.
How to Use the JSO Sparrow 1
Just launch from the launch pad in the stock system and press 1 when the command chip asks for an input. After that the Sparrow 1 will do everything on it’s own, until after stage 1 lands. Then, the code will prompt you to activate AG 1. After you do that, the craft will finish everything on it’s own.
Notes:
- There are still many bugs. Please tell me if anything does not work right.
- Every once in a while the first stage will run out of fuel before landing
- This was made and tested on high settings, I do not know how it works on other settings
Edit:
A bug was found. Unlisted fixed version

@Tweedle_Aerospace great! The Sparrow 1 still has bugs, so things like that will happen sometimes.

@JSO18 makes sense. I am glad that it is working as it is expected to now though!

@Tweedle_Aerospace yeah when it is out of fuel or has too much fuel it will want to start the landing burn at a negative number. It calculates the burn using TWR, so when TWR is too low it goes into negative. (It thinks TWR is 0 when fuel is 0)

@JSO18 now it worked on the old version. Same settings and normal speed.

@JSO18 this last time I used the old one it wanted to start the landing burn negative 1000 meters. It was out of fuel so it didn’t have a chance either way.

@Tweedle_Aerospace that is very weird, since the only edit I made was not going into fast forward after stage separation.

@JSO18 yep I am on the Juno system. It worked the second time though. I used the 1.5

@Tweedle_Aerospace were you playing on the stock system? I am pretty sure the landing code should work on all systems, but that is the only other thing I can think of.

@Tweedle_Aerospace that is very weird. I have had it run out of fuel 100 meters above the ground and hit the ground too hard, but every time it has enough fuel, it lands correctly for me.

@JSO18 it was on normal speed. I have high quality with part lift forces on. Like I said; it started burning at the correct height. It just didn’t have enough throttle I think. Weird you didn’t have that happen.

@kittman Thanks! It could be a while before Sparrow 2 is ready though, since I have to design the rocket and then make edits to the code to work with the new design.

looking good, dude! 😁
Can't wait to see Sparrow 2 with the Phoenix sitting on top... -

@Tweedle_Aerospace I put a link to the fixed version in the craft description.

@Tweedle_Aerospace I think sometimes it goes into fast forward after stage separation. I will try to release new rocket (maybe Sparrow 1.5) that will have some bug fixes and maybe a launch pad.

@Tweedle_Aerospace that has never happened to me. Did it run out of fuel? Were you in fast forward? What settings were you playing on?

Well it exploded. It hit the ground at 125 m/s. It started the burn at the correct height but then it had to low throttle.
@JSO18 yea, but even some of the most reliable kinds of these fail sometime or have bugs.
