On August 25, 1989, NASA's Voyager 2 completed its 12-year "Grand Tour" by passing just 3,000 miles (4,850 km) above Neptune's north pole.

This historic flyby revealed a dynamic, blue world with 700 mph winds, a "Great Dark Spot" storm, and discovered six new moons and four rings.

It remains the only probe to visit this planet.
