The Republic XF-103 was an American project to develop a powerful missile-armed interceptor aircraft capable of destroying Soviet bombers while flying at speeds as high as Mach 3. Despite a prolonged development, it never progressed past the mockup stage.

This is a WIP aircraft, my first upload here on SR2 and is essentially fininshed structurally, but needed flight refinements. She still is perfectly capable of flight, but as I am undertaking a new project, I figured I would just post this, and let people see it as is, since I don't have much motivation to finish it currently. Any suggestions on improving the flight characteristics would be much appreciated!

@DoublehshAerospace oh, that's not an intake, just paneling done in a way that mimics an intake. I wish SR2 had the ability to angle intakes, like SP does

How did you make the intake go forwards?

@Theseadog it does have severe auto-roll, which is the main reason it's still a WIP as far as the flight model goes. However I've never had it crash because of that, are you using the navball, or keyboard controls?

What am I doing wrong when I attempt to lift off the runway the plane started to go in a role/flip and crashes

@AstronautPlanes lol, ironically this one is actually fairly accurately scaled, only off by a meter or 2 in height and wingspan, the one time I don't pay attention to sizing I ended up accidentally getting it right

@ThePilotDude For some reason it doesn’t work as well here, because the fuel tanks eliminate the surface area of the wings that make contact with the atmosphere, which causes the lack of lift you would normally expect. And I had been previously a player of SimplePlanes, but quickly switched over to SR2 as the landscapes possible in this game are much more extent.

@TopSecret2 thanks, but I made sure to add wings, they're scaled down and located inside the fuselage/fuel tank piece. Same technique you see over on SimplePlanes builds, if you've been there.

This looks stunning, but once again a new player falls into the trap of believing that the fuel tanks will provide lift. The truth is the provide lift because it was intended only for lifting bodies to fly with only fuel tanks, at least in this game. The wings are far more precise in terms of lift because they are modeled more accurately when it comes to flight stability. I gotta admit your engine placement was genius, and could be done in a non-realistic way by staging the engines to boost the aircraft faster and higher, improving fuel efficiency.
