Long March 3 is a three-stage rocket developed on the basis of Long March 2. Long March 3 fully inherits the mature technology of the existing Long March rocket. Its first and second engines use the first and second engines of the Long March 2 C, and the third stage uses the world's most advanced liquid hydrogen / liquid oxygen engine. The rocket has a total length of 44.86 meters and a core-level maximum diameter of 3.35 meters. It can send a payload of 1600 kg directly into the geosynchronous transfer orbit. The first launch on January 29, 1984 did not enter the transfer orbit due to the failure of the third stage to start after the second start, and only conducted a communication test, or basically succeeded. As of 1997, a total of 12 launches had occurred, including 2 failed. The rocket is mainly used to launch China's Dongfanghong 2 and Dongfanghong 2A and other geosynchronous orbit communication satellites. The rocket successfully put the Asia-1 satellite manufactured by Hughes into the geosynchronous transfer orbit for the first time on April 7, 1990.
The first launch was successful on April 8, 1984. Launched by the "Long March" No. 3 carrier rocket. A total of 3 Dongfanghong-2 satellites have been developed and launched. It has been in development for nearly 16 years from 1970 to the third star launch.Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology , it has a design life of 3 years and is a satellite used for long-distance television transmission at the end of the 20th century in China . The satellite uses geosynchronous orbit , the first of which is fixed above the 125 ° east longitude equator. The successful launch of "Dongfanghong 2" started the history of satellite communications using our own communication satellites.
