Long March 3B (CZ-3B) is currently China's primary large-scale launch vehicle for high-orbit missions, belonging to the Long March 3A series. It features a "three-and-a-half-stage" configuration, which involves bundling four liquid boosters around the core stage of the Long March 3A, significantly enhancing its lifting capacity. Its payload capacity to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) exceeds 5.5 tons.
Since its maiden flight in 1996, the rocket has undergone continuous technical improvements and has become one of the most reliable models for high-orbit launch missions. It has undertaken numerous commercial satellite launches for both domestic and international clients, such as the APSTAR satellites, the ChinaSat series, and the launch missions for the Chang'e-3 and Chang'e-4 lunar probes. Leveraging its mature cryogenic upper-stage technology and high orbital injection accuracy, the Long March 3B not only supports the networking of large Chinese communication satellites but also plays a crucial role in deep-space exploration endeavors like the lunar exploration program. It stands as an outstanding representative of China's commercial space endeavors and international cooperation.
