The Atlas-IX Proto-A was the first prototype of the future Aurora project, built at a 1:3.7 scale relative to the final model. Its primary purpose was to test the most suitable wing configuration for the design, leading to the final selection of a delta wing style combined with canards to improve stability and maneuverability in high-speed flight. This prototype served as the basis for key decisions in the evolution of the more advanced versions of the Aurora, laying the foundation for an aerodynamic design that would lead to the creation of a cutting-edge spacecraft.
