The Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 Black Widow
II was a twin-engine, single-seat prototype stealth fighter developed for the U.S. Air Force’s Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition in the late 1980s. Known for its radical, diamond-shaped wings, V-tail, and exceptional stealth/supercruise capabilities, only two prototypes were built (PAV-1 "Spider" and PAV-2 "Gray Ghost"). Despite superior speed and stealth compared to the YF-22, it lost the competition to the YF-22 in 1991.
