Deep Blue Node
Neptune Orbiter & Atmospheric Probe
Mission Overview
Deep Blue Node is humanity's next bold stride into the outer Solar System. Designed to unlock the secrets of Neptune—its tempestuous atmosphere, intricate ring system, and enigmatic moons—this flagship mission represents the culmination of decades of planetary science ambition. Named to evoke both the planet’s iconic cerulean hue and its role as a remote sentinel of our cosmic neighborhood, Deep Blue Node is poised to become the farthest outpost of human exploration.
Launch Vehicle
Standing 92 meters tall at the launch pad, the Deep Blue Node stack is a towering monument to engineering prowess. The vehicle employs a three-stage liquid core for high-efficiency orbital insertion and interplanetary cruise, surrounded by four side-mounted solid rocket boosters (SRBs) in a bundled configuration. This hybrid design delivers the raw thrust necessary to escape Earth’s gravity well and propel a sophisticated scientific payload across nearly 30 astronomical units of deep space.

Scientific Objectives
- Atmospheric Revelation: Deploy an entry probe to descend through Neptune’s upper atmosphere, measuring composition, temperature, pressure, and wind dynamics in real time.
- Magnetospheric Mapping: Characterize Neptune’s offset and tilted magnetic field, investigating its interaction with the solar wind.
- Moon & Ring Survey: Conduct high-resolution imaging of Triton, Nereid, and the planet’s faint ring arcs, searching for clues to their origin and evolution.
- Interior Dynamics: Use gravity and radio science to constrain Neptune’s internal structure and differentiate between competing models of ice giant formation.
A Voyage to the Ice Giant
Following a gravity assist from Jupiter, Deep Blue Node will embark on a multi-year cruise to the outer Solar System. Upon arrival, the spacecraft will execute a critical orbit insertion burn, settling into a highly elliptical polar orbit—optimized for both close flybys of Triton and long-duration observations of Neptune’s cloud systems.
The mission is designed to operate for at least four years in Neptunian orbit, returning unprecedented data until its final depletion of attitude control propellant. Deep Blue Node will not return; it will remain as a silent ambassador—a node of human curiosity, permanently woven into the deep blue.
From the depths of the ocean planet to the depths of our imagination—Deep Blue Node.
