LANDING IN THE MOST REMOTE AND DANGEROUS LUNAR LOCATIONS HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER


Orion Technologies proudly unveils it next-gen DragonFly Lunar Hopper: a spacecraft designed to unlock the lunar surface(and sub-surface) like no other. With advanced autonomous navigation and decision-making skills, high-end spacecraft propulsion, and a dedicated team of master engineers behind it, DragonFly is truly a revolutionary spacecraft.


OVERVIEW

Dragonfly is a small vehicle designed to fly in and out of hard-to-reach locations and dangerous terrain on the lunar surface. These include deep craters, PSRs, and lava tubes. The spacecraft itself consists of a small hexagonal prism bus. 6 carbon-fiber legs assist in landing, while 3 pressure-fed hydrazine engines make up the propulsion system. An array of super-precise monopropellant RCS thrusters aid in attitude control. The spacecraft has a solar panel to allow for battery recharging on the lunar surface. Flight computers, batteries, radar and LiDAR altimeters, LEDs, and communication antennas wrap up the overview of the DragonFly Lunar Hopper. The spacecraft has capacity to carry 25lbs of scientific instruments onboard. DragonFly has a range with the current tank configuration of up to 25 km. Hard points onboard allow for delivery and deployment via our Phoenix Lander, which also acts as a communication relay for DragonFly.


FUTURE PLANS

The first DragonFly Lunar Hopper will fly on the upcoming Phoenix OT-2 mission to the lunar South Pole-Aiken Basin. It will explore the strange and complex terrain there. Later, on the Phoenix OT-4 mission, another DragonFly Lunar Hopper will be included in the payload manifest. Additionally, a DragonFly Lunar Hopper will fly onboard our first Altair Lander.

Tips:
It is VERY important that AG9 is activated before flight and immediately after landing!
If hopper tips over, rotate such that white panel is facing up, than activate AG7.
