H.E.R.U. (Hokori Experimental Research Unit) are experimental crafts that are developed just after the first demo flight of the Senkō to test a particular 5-engine Hokori system.
During test runs, the first craft, 001, have showed that the engine is capable of high acceleration and climb rate, and have reached speed of ~7.800 Km/h (1.344 M/s) before the craft disintegrated, caused by the strobe light suddenly exploded. Ending the pilot's life, but not the program. (yes actually happened)
