H.E.R.U. (Hokori Experimental Research Unit) are a series of prototype craft developed shortly after the first demo flight of the Senkō. Their primary purpose is to push the limits of the newly designed five-engine Hokori propulsion system that promised extreme acceleration and altitude performance.
During the initial test program, the first prototype, Unit 001, demonstrated just how powerful the system could be. In early trials, it achieved astonishing climb rates and rapid response to throttle input, eventually reaching speeds of roughly 7,800 km/h (about 1,344 m/s) .
However, the flight ended in tragedy. A catastrophic failure occurred when the strobe light assembly abruptly exploded mid-run, sending structural vibrations through the airframe and causing the craft to disintegrate. The pilot was lost, but the incident did not halt the project. (actually happened)
