Part of a series on TritonAerospace's lore.

Lore, use cases, and missile specifications are listed here! some heavy topics are discussed, so if you're queasy, then skip the lore. also, make sure to use the green "mode" switch on the side of the truck to select the SAM-3 (I forgot to change it manually and I don't feel like uploading for the 5000th time :') sorry).

A new system meant to solve a massive issue with the SAM-2U and SAM-2U-EA

Changelog

  • new missile: my SAM-3B "Ferret"
  • weapon volume increased from 4 to 12
  • New weapon parameters coded by triton
  • the truck might be updated with a command/receive mode if i decide to take a crack at it later on

Lore

Something that not many people know about Rokugou Systems' CEO, is that his father died when he was 14, during the first cruise strikes that Ali conducted against DSC. His father was an aircraft mechanic working with an F-4A, and the hangar he was in was struck. He got trapped under rubble and couldn't make it out.
This absolutely crushed the kid. Losing your father so early on isn't fun, especially to such a traumatic experience. For about a year and a half, he was in a very deep depressive state, and nearly lost himself because of the chaos of the world suddenly breaking into a war. Thankfully, his mother managed to talk him through it. He was still shattered, don't forget that, but now, he's working to better himself.
15 years pass. The kid is now an adult with a masters in Aerospace engineering. He's been looking into different weapons systems for both sides, and he starts to notice something: There are gaps, where other weapons should be. And these gaps are what keeps the war going.
And so, he takes it as far up the military chain of command he can get it. But nothing happens. He tries again, this time with parliament. Again, nothing happens. Seeing this, he decides he needs to take matters into his own hands.
Using his degree and leveraging investors, he starts up a new company: Rokugou Systems. at first, they're a small startup, then they grow. fast.
something else about the attack that killed the CEO's dad: there were defenses to protect the base, however there weren't enough. there were only 16 fire-ready SAM-2E-2's ready for launch, spread across 4 TELs. seeing this, the biggest priority was to increase the volume of missiles that could be fire-ready on each truck. so, they had to be sized down.
Along with that, the missiles needed to be maneuverable enough to hit aircraft and cruise missiles. being small meant being lighter, and this helped a lot. while the fins weren't the biggest size, they were more than enough to hit a maneuvering target like a fighter jet.
the final constraint that needed to be solved was cost. each SAM-2U and SAM-2U-EA costs $1.2M and $1.3M respectively. again, being small solved this issue with the SAM-3. it only cost $150K per unit.
And so, the SAM-3A was born. however, one small issue: it was too fast, capping out at mach 6 (well above the initial speed target of mach 3.5), which caused major issues. this being lofting too high above it's flight ceiling, and a terminal wiggle that increased the likelihood of the missile overshooting it's target.
With these new issues in mind, the SAM-3A was scrapped, and the SAM-3B solved them both of these issues by switching from a more instantaneous-burn booster to a more sustained one.
With this done, compatibility with the TEL-2 and TEL-3 began, and they were able to fit 12 on 1 TEL-3 without collisions. this was great news, as the original SAM-2U and SAM-2U-EA could only fit 4 on 1 TEL. this meant that you could defend more missiles at once.

Use Cases & Missile Specifications

this is a point-defense missile with a pretty short range compared to others (100km compared to the SAM-2U's 400km), however it's pretty maneuverable. it's intended to be used against cruise missiles, drones, low-flying helicopters and drones, and lightweight aircraft. since it uses a smaller impact-fused warhead, it has a lower Probability of Kill against bigger aircraft.
...
* speed cap: Mach 5
* Range cap: 100km (62 miles)
* Altitude cap: 15km (50,000ft)
* Probability of Hit: 95% under ideal conditions
* Probability of Kill: 60% (small warhead)
* 3-pack weight: 2.81 Metric Tons (3.1 metric tons)
* TWR: 5x (max fuel), 15x (minimum fuel)
* burn time: 20 seconds
* Steering: Canards with 20° control authority
* Launch Vehicle: TEL-3 (this one), TEL-2
* Reloading Vehicle: Triton Aerospace Reloader

That's all of the important stuff. all AGs are labeled for ease of use. happy hunting! :D

    @Livingg017 it's possible, but there's a different fire-control system for it. Dm me on discord and I'll help you out, Rokugou3224 :)

    Nice build bro, would it be possible for you to program the missile to be launched by an airplane? I am building a heavy interceptor and this missiles are perfect for it, so if you can make them work on one and to work using one activation group per missile it would be nice
