Many futurists envision the use of spaceplanes, but few envision the practicality that comes with the rocket. Now take the concept of the rocket, add ion jets, a heat shield, and a mechanism that allows the engines to retract when re entering the atmosphere. The SIPR-10 Ion SSTO takes the concept of the retractable engine and takes to 11.

Not only can this rocket retract its engines, it has enough range and power to fly to any planet in the system. This interplanetary vessel has enough acceleration to take off from Tydos, and it has enough shielding to enter its atmosphere without burning up. And on top of its impressive capabilites, this vessel also features an astronaut. Thats right, an Astronaut! I will make a future update to include more seats, just make sure you have the memory for it.

Controls:
- Slider 1: set to 100% to bring engines out.
- Slider 2: set to 100% to pull landing gear up.

@lordvader0219 Alright. It’s been a while since I checked anything out in this game. My god is the custom planetary systems a godsend for fun factor.

@TopSecret2 I’ve adjusted the heat resistance of more parts to resist more heat in SIPR-11 and SIPR-21 models. See if either of those have the same problem.

I discovered a major problem with this while testing its reentry resistance: it’s heat shielding is massively effective against the “shock” heating where the heat shields instantly get up to thousands of degrees. But the internals have an issue with conductive heating where as the craft goes through the atmosphere heat gets transferred to parts that aren’t protected from the heat. As a result attempting reentry from lunar orbit or other planets on Droo can be deadly for the astronaut when internal parts explode from conductive heating.

@Sholva this ship could take off from any planet. It could even launch from the 2.5g Tydos.

Also, just a suggestion, it could have more potential if it a decent sized cargo hold and/or mirrored grapple hook(s) for those who might want to use this as a colony creator tool.

Interesting concept... Is it launchable from Droo without help? Or does it have to be launched from Luna?
