The Mauser BK-27 is a 3 barrel revolver cannon with air and naval platforms. It fires 27mm bullets at a frequency of 1,000 rounds/minute, although it has variants which can fire as fast as 1,700 rounds per minute. This autocannon was first mounted on the real life Panavia Tornado, followed by the Alpha Jet A, in which it was featured as a gunpod variant in the belly of the Alpha Jet.
Note that the gunpod shown in the picture above doesnt have the same external shape as the real life gunpod. I put a lot more priority in fire rate and making sure it works rather than making an exact replica.
In game, this cannon is powered by a single tinkered engine that produces no thrust, and has a very long exhaust that acts like a stream of bullets. It will destroy just about any craft that gets within its stream of bullets, and is usually one-shot kill, especially since it does 100 damage per hit and does turn on and off 1000 times per minute (like the real BK-27 did).
Setup is extremely simple. For the gun itself, just attach it to any aircraft, and generally it will attach facing backwards, so you will likely need to rotate it forward, as well as make small adjustments to its other rotational axis to make sure the gun looks nice and fits nicely on your design.
As for the gunpod, I originally was going to make it detachable via the GEN 2 Fire Control System, but unfortunately, I couldn't get the detacher to work reliably, so, true to real life, I decided to make it a fixed gunpod, which should be mounted to a pylon or attachment point, although it does have a small pylon of its own.
To fire these gunpods, you will need to have Activation Group 10 available in your craft, as it uses Activation Group 10 to fire the guns. Additionally, you will also need slider 4 available, as that is the engine input itself. Same applies for the gun
This design is far more reliable than the Vulcan cannon design, although some may argue it looks less cool. But it is a reliable and powerful autocannon nevertheless, and is a staple on many modern fighter jets!
Known Bugs/Issues! ⚠️
- On some Alpha Space Technology jets, you may have to rebind the Activation Group for activating the gunpod, as the gun Activation Group may be set to a different AG number.
