It's a good rocket. It's far more efficient than a lot of stuff that gets uploaded. Just by tweaking the engines, you can get a lot more performance from this. I gave this a 2t dummy payload, and it got to orbit with 614m/s deltav remaining / 5 secs burn time. Starting TWR was 1.05, underpowered for a 2t payload, but the upper stage is massively overpowered.
I changed the stage 1 engine to 100% nozzzle throat size, so stage 1 doesn't last as long, but early thrust really pays off. I changed the stage 2 engine to 50% nozzle throat size and the lowest chamber pressure. (This also makes the engine much lighter and cheaper, and the total rocket is down to $3.4m.) With the same 2t payload, TWR improved to 1.42. It reached orbit with 1.63 km/s d-v remaining, and over 1 minute of burn time.
