The Shuguang program, project 714, was the first manned space flight by the People's Republic of China in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The spacecraft can carry two people, similar to the Gemini spacecraft. However, due to lack of national strength and political unrest, Shu guang project was finally cancelled on May 13, 1972. Although the plan was cancelled, the experience of the plan and the contributions of qian xuesen, Cai qiao, zhao jiuzhang, guo yonghuai, bei shizhang, qian ji, wang xiji, lu yuanjiu, Yang jiasheng, tu shancheng, he quanxuan, shen qizhen, wang daheng and other scientists laid a foundation for the future manned space flight of China.
