Tianwen-2 is China's first asteroid sample-return and main-belt comet exploration mission, forming part of the China Planetary Exploration Program. The mission aims to accomplish two primary objectives with a single launch: returning samples to Earth from the near-Earth asteroid 2016 HO3 (469219 Kamoʻoalewa), and subsequently traveling to conduct a rendezvous exploration of the main-belt comet 311P/PanSTARRS (P/2013 P5).
Tianwen-2 was successfully launched aboard a CZ-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 01:31:24.123 (Beijing Time) on May 29, 2025
