The SM-68A Titan I was an ICBM operated by the US Air Force from 1959-1962. It was originally designed as a back up ICBM in case the Atlas ICBM ran into development problems. The Titan I was a two-stage vehicle. Its first stage used one LR87-3 engine. The second stage used one LR91 engine. The W38 thermonuclear warhead was mounted on top of the second stage. The Titan I was eventually replaced by the Titan II ICBM. The Titan I was a part of the Titan Rocket Family, which consisted of the Titan I, Titan II, Titan II SLV, Titan II GLV, Titan IIIA, Titan IIIB Agena, Titan IIIB Ascent Agena, Titan IIIC, Titan IIID, Titan IIIE, Titan IVA, and Titan IVB.
