Following their first landing on the red planet in 2042, the Earthling race began colonizing planet Mars in 2111. Settlements began construction, and the planet underwent a terraforming process. A sense of national identity sprouted among the Marsnoid colonists, and when they located the wreck of a crashlanded warship of unknown origin, they studied its technology to secretly develop weapons beyond anything possessed by Earth. In 2164, ready to defend themselves against retaliation, the Martian Autonomous Government declared independence.

The declaration triggered what would later be known as the First Interplanetary War. Earth’s Navy suddenly faced Marsnoid cruisers equipped with superior weaponry. Early engagements were disastrous. Earth fleets were outpaced, outgunned, and outmaneuvered, forcing withdrawals from multiple sectors.

With their next generation warships still years from completion, the U.N. fleet reuses the Kuiper Belt mining vessel blueprint, and then heavily militarize it. Resulting in the birth of the H-class Destroyer.

These ships were never meant to win glorious battles. They were built fast, in partially converted shipyards, using standardized components and whatever thingamajig non-outdated military hardware could be fitted without redesigning the entire structure. Their role was simple: hold the line.
