Explorer 8 was a NASA research satellite launched on November 3, 1960 atop a Juno II vehicle and successfully went into an elliptical orbit. The satellite obtain measurements of the electron density, the electron temperature, the ion concentration, the ion mass, the micrometeorite distribution, and the micrometeorite mass in the charged particles region called the ionosphere at altitudes between 400 and 1600 km. Explorer 8 continued to provide data until December 27, 1960.
