The conceptual fusion engine, designed by NASA and the University of Wahington in 2012, is based on the Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) and Z-pinch technology. The main mass of this design is caused by the Lithium liner to absorb the radioactive neutrons.

FRC is formed under the high temperature and pressure in the formation chamber before the rocket nozzle, and the reacted Neutron and Helium will be ejected out at a speed of 30km/s.
