Concept I’ve been thinking of for my Hard sci-fi worldbuilding project.

Point Defense Kill Vehicle designed to be fired from a coil-cannon, before reaching its target it puts itself into a fast spin and then unfurls a bunch of super long, thin metal wires that are thrown out by centrifugal force, although the wires aren't very heavy, any projectile that hits them would be obliterated because of the absurd velocities both objects are moving at.

I imagine this as a relatively cheap and mass produceable alternative to things like timed fuses or lasers, you could even remove the NSW module and RCS and have it unguided.

The biggest downside to it though is that once the wires are deployed it can no longer manoeuvre because it’s spinning so fast, so if the enemy projectile has its own guidance system it can easily move out of the way.

Ag1 for main Nuclear Salt Water engine

Ag "Bloody hell" for spin-up and wire deployment

Uses GreenGalaxyAeroSpace's hot rcs

The rcs thrusters are a bit janky but that's definitely me just making them too powerful cause the vizzy program is really good.

Yes there is a typo in the name in game shut up
Also technically since I’m Australian I should be using “Defence” instead of “Defense” but I’m done trying to argue with the autocorrect (and c & s make the same sound in English when used in this way so who gives a sh*t)

Thinking more about it the unguided shell version of this would be better in every regard, having propulsion and rcs makes no sense for the intended use and the shells could be rapid fired to cover as much space as possible with their wires.

This craft is mainly aesthetic, I haven’t tested the wires against a target and with the large velocities involved they would probably just phase through each other.

@Reyzx Heavily edited landing gear with the tires made invisible and the length increased

How did you make the wires btw?

SpinWiP would be a better shorthand for this device.

I still wonder why it has "point defense" in the name. There isn’t much point-defensing to me.
