  • Meant to fill an absolutely absurd range band

Lore

Despite being primarily an air-and-missiles war, Rokugou Systems' CEO took notice of the fact that there wasn't much of an anti-armor standing in the air industry. Sure, there were weapons like the GBU-2 glide bomb, but they were short-ranged and didn't have much use against lighter targets like APCs and technical trucks.
Along with that, 4th Special Operations Aviation Regiment Airborne had complaints about their currently in-service missile—the ASM-1. It was a bit bulky, lacked fire and forget, and you could only mount 2 at the time. as Koya Maleckar-Ayim states, "the AH-6F is a good platform, but it's being held back by the weapons it's able to carry. we need a new missile to keep up with special forces insertions."
Like SOARA-4, the 45th Light Attack and Testing Special Squadron had their own complaints. as stated by Treasure Clark-Parker, "the GBUs we have in service are a bit dated. sure, they get the job done, but they're very hard to work with if there are air defenses in the area. we need something that we can fire from beyond 8 kilometers."
So, wanting to fill the doctrinal gap, the CEO ordered 2 new weapons into development—a lightweight anti-tank missile for rotary aircraft, and a heavy-weight one for fixed wing. These would be designated "Project Orion", and their returns would not disappoint.

Use Cases

The Orion-H is a very draggy missile, bleeding off most of its speed by the 18km mark. It's best used within 15km and under Mach 1.5, however these parameters can be stretched.
While it shares the same code as air to air missiles, it's not very capable against fast movers like aircraft; it'll perform better against helicopters or drones. We reccomend using the ASM-20 only against surface targets though.
It's not very good at off-bore shots, as it doesn't pull very hard. It's best to point your nose before firing, then peeling off to avoid Anti-air fire.
