P-61 First flew in 1942 and 706 were built and fitted with British Radar that was new in development. The radar could spot enemy planes 5 miles away giving it a huge advantage. They operated in squadrons in the European Theater, Pacific Theater, China Berma India Theater, and Mediterranean theater during World War II as night fighters. Though not many were made and used during the war they still achieved 127 air victories.
This was named and painted after ther real “Moonlight Serenade” P-61
(look up footage of one shooting at night!)
