Luna-25 was the first robotic mission developed in post-Soviet Russia for the exploration of the Moon. Aiming to land in the high-latitudes of the Southern Hemisphere of our natural satellite, it was intended to pave the way to a whole series of robotic and, eventually, piloted lunar expeditions.
Despite multiple delays, the probe was successfully launched on August 12, 2023.
Unfortunately, due to equipment malfunction, the probe lost control on August 19th and was later confirmed to have crashed on the moon.
