The Tejas Mk-2 is a 4.5 generation, single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft being developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF). It is a heavier, more capable evolution of the Tejas Mk-1, featuring an advanced GE F414 engine, canards for improved aerodynamics, an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, increased payload capacity (6.5 tons), and compatibility with advanced missiles and weapons. The design phase is complete, with prototyping underway, and the first flight is targeted for late 2026 or early 2027.
