Garrett G-76 “Sand Dragon”
Type: Twin-propeller light utility aircraft
Role: Desert travel, remote reconnaissance, bush transport
Configuration: High wing • twin-boom tail • short takeoff & landing (STOL)

✦ Description
The Garrett G-76 “Sand Dragon” is a compact twin-prop aircraft built for pilots who operate where maps end and landmarks disappear.

Designed around harsh desert survival, the G-76 prioritizes cooling, visibility, and navigation over luxury. Its high-mounted wings keep sand and rocks away from the propellers, while the twin-boom tail leaves the rear open for airflow — letting the propellers pull clean air instead of hot ground turbulence.

Inside the cockpit sits one of its most unusual features:
a built-in ventilation fan system.
Instead of heavy air-conditioning (which reduces engine power in extreme heat), the Sand Dragon circulates outside air through filtered ducts. Pilots stay cool without sacrificing performance.

Because deserts are easy places to get lost, the aircraft is covered in navigation gear — multiple small radar antennas, direction finders, and beacon receivers. Even if GPS fails, the plane can still locate signals from settlements, vehicles, or emergency transmitters.

Despite its purpose, the G-76 isn’t limited to sand. It works well in:

savannas

islands

coastlines

dry mountains

tropical regions

However, it performs poorly in freezing climates due to its cooling-optimized systems and lack of anti-icing equipment.

The result is a plane that feels more like a flying off-road vehicle than a traditional aircraft: simple, tough, and cheap to maintain.

✦ Key Characteristics
Fast cruise for a utility plane

Very short runway requirement

Excellent downward visibility

Low operating cost

Reliable in heat and dust

Manual backup navigation systems

Weak performance in cold weather

✦ Origin
The Sand Dragon was created after a series of search-and-rescue failures across vast desert regions where helicopters were too expensive and standard bush planes overheated or got lost.

Garrett engineers realized the real problem wasn’t speed — it was survivability.

So instead of building a high-tech aircraft, they built a practical one

I like this type of approach. I like aircraft that take into account many things that are not shown in the game, rather than just pursuing speed. Thank you for the best craft XD
