Project Pluto was iniciated in Oct 1 1955 by the United States Air Force & The Atomic energy commission. It is a supersonic missle capable of scattering 16 nuclear or conventional warheads throughout enemy territory.
It's engine is certainly marvelous, supersonic air rushes in through the inlet and passes through an unshielded nuclear reactor, then it exits the nozzle at a blistering temperature, generating thrust with no moving parts.
The Project was eventually canceled because the missile's exhaust spews out all sorts of radioactive material, irradiating everything and everyone along it's flight path.
