If you didn’t already know, Stephen Hawking died March 14. He was one of the greatest scientists of our age. He was awarded numerous awards including: the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Wolf Prize in Physics, and the Copley Medal.

One of his greatest achievements was his breakthroughs in the study of black holes. He theorized that the gravitational forces are so strong inside a black hole that time itself stops. Not even light can get through, hence the name black hole. He discovered that black holes actually emit something called Hawking Radiation(electromagnetic radiation that, according to theory, should be emitted by a black hole. The radiation is due to the black hole capturing one of a particle-antiparticle pair created spontaneously near to the event horizon).

We will miss you Stephen.
