A question for the devs or for those that might know:
What happens if I put an airfoil or wing within a fuel tank? would the fuel tank block all "airflow" (even if the fuel tank's drag is turned down all the way) over the airfoil or would the airfoil still produce lift? I am trying to produce different wing shapes and I was wondering if I could use a fuel tank over a wing (or having a wing within a fuel tank) to enhance its shape without spoiling any airflow.
@KraZIvan - BTW... In aerodynamics, q is oftentimes the symbol for dynamic pressure (with a bar over it) or pitch-rate without a bar.
@swope @SupremeDorian Iit seems I have a lot to play around with and test, I'll look at drag settings and furelages and how they will affect lift on airfoils. thank you guys!
I would be surprised if there were any downstream interactions. I think each part is considered on it's own with no regard for upwash, wake, turbulence, etc.
The stock SimpleAirways aircraft has fuselages on the wings. The wing parts make lift and induced drag, and the fuselages store fuel and make the wings look rounded like actual airfoils.
@KraZIvan What if you tried turning the drag scale on any parts covering the wing to 0?
@mjdfx150529 That's very thankful thank you. Do you know if placing an object in front of a wing's airflow will also block or spoil that airflow?
Occluded parts have no effect on lift and draw, so hiding your wings in a fueltank will render them useless.
i'm 6 years late for this conversation and even though the new stock parts cover all the needs you were looking for, i've just ran into a weird problem, the glide ratio of an aircraft is virtually the same no matter how much mass you add or remove, it's as if the frontal drag only is taken into count and no induced drag.
