I have read all the posts, and was surprised that this one was not suggested by anyone before. Please make side mounted parachutes, like in KSP! As of yet, there is no elegant way to put a docking port and a parachute on the same cockpit.

@Kell it's not the same as the KSP style of side mount paraschuts. I think it's still a good idea.

I came across the same problem. I just made some custom command pods that have both. There are a lot of capsules for download on the site, including mine, that will help you before we get new command pods. Plus most of the player created builds look cooler than stock and give some good variety in my opinion.
