51 years ago today, three humans were the farthest anyone had ever been from the Earth. On Earth, 1968 had been a turbulent year with the assassinations of King and Kennedy, and the tumult of the Chicago riot. That Christmas Eve though, the world paused to watch Apollo 8 go around the Moon for the first time in history. The astronauts, Frank Borman, Bill Anders, and Jim Lovell, after being told they would have the largest audience ever to hear a human voice, were told: "Say something appropriate." The three men decided that they would read from where it all began, in Genesis 1. This is a recording of that historic broadcast. This is my 2nd favorite Christmas story.

I had heard of this, but never listened to the broadcast, and frankly, that's one of the coolest, most beautiful moments of the Apollo missions
