today i was bored and so i decided using my grandad's old (very very old) vinyl disc player, i managed to make it work and i played some queen albun that i found. it worked fine until suddenly from nowhere i hear a loud bang noise and i see smoke coming off from behind the rear of the disc player. I immediately unplugged it and noticed an horrendous fishy-like burnt smell. I know it was some kind of elecrtolytic capacitor that exploded due to its age, it doesnt bother me, however the smell was really horrible and now, in my house, having had a shower and 5 hours after the incident i cannot get the smell out of my mind. To anyone who has an old (30 years or more) device that hasnt been used in years, specially music gear, i advice you to ask a technician about the condition of the capacitors, i really do not recommend the smell… any suggestion how to forget it?
