Right, so last night was arguably one of the worst I had in regards to sleep, I went to bed at about 10 to 10 (21:50 (9:50 PM)) and was falling off to sleep peacefully...then out of nowhere some dumb dog (only reason I'm calling it dumb is because it wasn't barking for important purposes (such as alerting owners of a criminal or home invader), just for social interaction which it did...all damn day already, I don't think all dogs are dumb) started barking one way in a rather fluctuating volume (meaning one minute it is loud ish, the next it is rather soft, then less loud and less soft, etc) and I tried to fall off to sleep after that, I already had makeshift earmuffs in my ears and I tried ignoring it, yet, unfortunately that didn't work out well...even when there was silence this thing decided to break it for no good reason...idk when I went to sleep but it was way after midnight...so, I just wanna know, what could I do in this situation? Since I don't want it to happen on an exam night and then my marks are tanked because of some inconsiderate doge, also the owners do nothing about this, idk how and why, worse off, this wasn't the first time my sleep was tanked by dog's being inconsiderate...(only reason I call them inconsiderate is because, again, they do this all day, every day, can't they just sleep at night? Not to mention they literally wake their friends up) And I've lived in other areas with dogs before...and those dogs...never did this

@KSaf thanks for the advice man, rocks would work, I may take that into consideration if I find good ones, thanks man! All is good so far, I've had about 7 good hours of sleep lately...yet I just need to ask my mom to be less noisy so that I don't get woken up by noise...kinda ruins the day before it even begins...

Dogs bark alot around here. I'm unsure if it's possible there, although I love dogs and in no way dislike them, I usually throw rocks near them (NOT at them, that's just cruel) and it's enough to make them leave. But this is cause I got easy access to rocks and we live in the middle of a field so this solution probably wont work for ya.

Hope you're doin well bud. I know it's been like months since we've talked and whenever we do talk it's a short exchange but eh life gets in the way.

@destoria it was fine momentarily, now there's a 2 hour delay before I normally go to sleep, still is pretty fragmented, unfortunately I don't have a place to get melatonin gummies from nor would my headphones work, as well...it has been silent recently, the dogs have learned to quiet down...yet even with that I still have the 2 hour delay...I think this could be insomnia and It does happen suddenly...I have found ways to potentially combat it like calming my mind by playing calming music before sleep, that could work really, I'm going to try that tonight...thanks for checking in man! Live long and prosper

headphones are normally expensive so i would try doing the other two options before having to buy some

my recommendation is to first, try to talk with your neighbors, if this doesnt work and it persists, you have two options:

    • telling them that if they dont do nothing to prevent this you will have to call police because of noise and long-time disturbing of nearby cohabitants

    • buy some great headphones. Which ones doesnt matter but i would recommend them being from a trusted brand (known for audio quality if possible) and the design being circumaural, as other types may obstruct air flow into your ears which can create wax issues (airpod style) or either obstruct blood in your ear and make it feel extremely uh i dont remember the word, the feeling you get on the skin with a mosquito bite (supraaural design, the ones that go over the ears). Im not preferent for any brand but from my experience with various headphones, by far the best ones i ever bought are the Sony WH-CH720N i am using right now (who the hell chose the name lol). they have noise cancel if needed, i wouldnt recommend it as it reduces the sound range you can hear if you use it long term (any noise cancellation does it), the battery lasts more than three days being all time on (except if you use noise cancel, then it lasts less) and barely takes 10 minutes to charge, all this with the best audio quality ive ever seen on headphones, and im a music expert so trust me they sound insane, and you can customise the bass and sound range which is nice tbh. anyway thats my recommendation as it worked for me.

    hope it was helpful

@Tallisar those tend to reduce the sounds you can hear if used for too long

Try noise-cancelling earphones with blue and/or brown noise. Or, whichever noise you're comfortable with.

@destoria I think I found a way...essentially when in bed, I put on my earmuffs and breath using my throat, that makes inner noise, which can block out exterior noise, as well as hittin my tongue on my pallete, in a pattern so that I can tire myself out (I do this in quick succession, and yes, I did yawn a lot while doing this, yet do stretch yourself off beforehand), you then become really tired...eventually, you stop doing the tongue thing automatically and you dose off... Am yet to confirm tonight

uhh idk i have a severe case of cynophobia, which is a fear of dogs
maybe use your instincts (like running or fighting/defending), telling your parents, or, as the others say, ignore it and itll lose interest.

I wonder if using the" military way" of falling asleep will work.. no thoughts, all muscles still, eye closed, dont think abt anything and you may fall asleep in around 3 minute..

Tho i dont know if it'll work when its noisy around
