Context: Despite being a reliable platform for it's time, the Triton Aerospace AAM-40 was showing it's age badly in modern fights. it frequently missed even non-maneuvering targets, and showed it wasn't a reliable weapon in a modern-day fight. Rokugou Systems, seeing the opportunity, took a crack at filling the range gap and outperforming the requirements by miles, as they've proven themselves to do time and time again.
The development path was a bit rocky, but eventually it matured into the YAAM-43. it wasn't a perfect weapon, that's for sure, but for a first prototype, it was pretty okay. However, "okay" has never been enough for the CEO, and his anxiety starts to flare up a bit. Penelope takes not of this.
If you missed out on The Red Binder Post, know that Penny is the CEO's right hand woman and close friend. She's constantly looking out for the CEO, as she has for years. They both share massive respect, both inside and outside the company.
A few more prototypes later, and Penny starts to get a bit worried. Usually, it doesn't take this long for the CEO to finish development, and even though it's a superlong range system, it's taking a suspicious amount of man hours from him.
So, in her free time, she drops by his office to find him sleeping on his desk, surrounded by different blueprints and designs that R&D had sent up to him. It's safe to say, he's exhausted.
Logs: "[Name Restricted]?" she calls out to him, "Dude..."
Penelope approaches him, looking at the chaos on his desk. most of these blueprints would work just fine for the development program. Why's he so caught up in these? She gently shakes the CEO, and he jolts awake.
"Bwuh!" He snaps up, then turns to look at her. "oh, Christ, it's just you. Don't scare me like that, Penny."
She giggles at his reaction a bit. "Not my fault you were dead asleep when I came in," she snarkily. "Anyway, what's been going on dude? You've been pretty out of it these past few days."
"I'm just working on the... new missile for DSC."
"Yeah, by sleeping on all your blueprints?"
They both share a chuckle. Penelope picks up one of the newer blueprints.
"What's wrong with it that's got you so worked up?" she questions him. "Most of these designs seem more than ready for DSC."
The CEO ruffles his hair a bit, something he does to help keep himself calm. "Some terminal wiggle, altitude cap, and guidance tuning issues. We can't seem to get them right."
Penelope sighs and shakes her head.
"Dude, you know you can't solve an issue that's a nature problem. cruising your missiles at 60 kilometers just isn't possible."
"I know, I know, but...."
"Plus, the warhead is massive. The terminal wiggle shouldn't be an issue given the proxy fuse works properly."
"...yeah, but-"
"But what? [Name Restricted], you're running yourself dry. You can't keep doing this."
The CEO doesn't respond.
"Tell me, when was the last time you actually took some time for yourself?"
He thinks for a moment. "I think... back in late may?"
Penny gasps a little bit. "You've been running hot for... nearly 3 months dude?"
The CEO nods shamefully.
"Dude... I love you, but you need to take some time for yourself." She sighs. "Tell you what, you and RDD sand down the last few terminal wiggle issues, and then take some time for yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup."
"But what abou-"
"I'll handle it, [Name Restricted]. Seriously."
A moment of silence.
"...Thank you, Penny. Seriously."
"Forever and always, [Name Restricted]."
The two embrace in a hug.
