Luna Regolith Sample Box

Samples of Luna Regolith

On the 20th of January 2025, we launched the LunaRock-2 spacecraft on a 28-day mission to Luna to collect 50kg of samples from two vastly different locations on the surface of Luna.

LunaRock-2 successfully landed for the first time on the 4th of February, and it completed all of its science objectives, which has provided us with valuable data on Luna surface operations and pre-launch operations.

On the 8th of February, LunaRock-2 successfully lifted off and performed an 11-minute flight before landing in a different portion of Luna which was believed to have had volcanic activity billions of years ago.

Upon completing all surface missions, the LunaRock-2 spacecraft ignited a return stage and put itself on path for a return to Droo and on February 17th we successfully recovered the sample capsule after it made a record-breaking re-entry, surviving speeds of 4500m/s in the atmosphere and slowing down to subsonic speeds in less than 35 seconds.

70 days after splashdown, we have started shipping samples to 5 other companies for study so that we can gather more knowledge on Luna and its surface. Each company will receive 7.41kg of regolith contained in a sealed box, the design of which will eventually be used by Droods on Luna and eventually beyond.

Congratulations to the 5 companies which are being given these samples. We hope you learn a lot and appreciate the hard work it took to bring them to your laboratories.
