Proxima is a satellite constellation designed and manufactured by ISX. Its objective is to provide internet connectivity to remote areas where traditional infrastructure is unavailable. With a network of strategically positioned satellites in low Earth orbit, Proxima brings reliable and high-speed internet access to underserved regions, bridging the digital divide and empowering communities worldwide. By leveraging advanced technology, Proxima revolutionizes connectivity, transforming lives and fostering global inclusion.

OVERVIEW

WIDTH | 1.73 m / 5.6 ft

DEPTH | 2.23 m / 7.3 ft

MASS | 254 kg / 559.9 lb

HOW PROXIMA WORKS

Most satellite internet services come from single geostationary satellites that orbit the planet at 35,786 km. As a result, the round trip data time between the user and satellite—also known as latency—is high, making it nearly impossible to support streaming, online gaming, video calls or other high data rate activities.

Proxima is a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit the planet much closer to Earth, at about 330km, and cover the entire globe. Because Proxima satellites are in a low orbit, latency is significantly lower—around 20 ms vs 600+ ms.

LESS MASS, MORE COMPACT

Each satellite features a compact, flat-panel design that minimizes volume, allowing for a dense launch stack to take full advantage of the launch capabilities of ISX’s Eagle rocket.

AUTONOMOUS COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Proxima satellites autonomously manoeuvre to avoid collisions with orbital debris and other spacecraft. This capability reduces human error and provides exceptional reliability, exceeding the industry standard by an order of magnitude.

STAR TRACKER

Proxima’s custom-built navigation sensors survey the stars to determine each satellite’s location, altitude, and orientation, enabling precise placement of broadband throughput.

ANTENNAS

Each Proxima satellite uses four powerful phased array antennas and four parabolic antennas to increase capacity.

ION PROPULSION SYSTEM

Efficient ion thrusters, powered by Xenon, enable Proxima satellites to orbit raise, manoeuvre in space, and deorbit at the end of their useful life.

DUAL SINGULAR SOLAR ARRAY

Proxima satellites feature a single solar array on each side, significantly simplifying the system also delivers enough power to operate. Solar cells are standardized and easy to integrate into the manufacturing process.

SELF-ORIENTING FOR SELF-INSTALL

Proxima is a commercially available phased array antenna. Your Proxima Kit arrives with everything you need to get online in minutes including your Proxima, WiFi router, cables and base. It is self-orienting and connects in minutes as long as it has a clear view of the sky. Proxima can withstand extreme cold, heat, hail, sleet, heavy rain, gale-force winds, and even rocket engines.

REGULAR ACCESS TO SPACE

As the world’s leading provider of launch services, ISX is the only satellite operator with the ability to launch its own satellites as needed. With frequent, low-cost launches, Proxima satellites are constantly updated with the newest technology.

LEADER IN SPACE SUSTAINABILITY

Proxima not only leads the industry in innovations to reduce satellite brightness but also in on-orbit debris mitigation—meeting or exceeding all regulatory and industry standards.
