Hi,
May please someone help me with RCS dimensioning?
I am quite new in game and especially in spaceship design and have noted that RCS very often interfere with orbits: in my case for example when passing from prograde to retrograde the use of RCS causes undesired changes like increased in height of apoapsis and also change of inclination. Is there a way to avoid this? Or is it always better to use only gyroscope in orbit?

The rcs does change the orbit (from using thrust, i think) try to attach the rcs on the center of mass... but the gyroscope should only change the heading and pitch
one tip that took me forever to figure out when docking - put the camera in "follow mode" , and it will keep the rcs "translate up" as up. the camera mode it starts with is "up" from the center of the planet that the craft is orbiting - and if you target the craft that you are trying to dock with, then tap the velocity readout, it will show velocity relative to orbital, surface, or the target - keep it on target and the green arrow pointed at the target using translate

Again thanks! I will try in low atmosphere and (when ready) also in docking :)

@RedBlueMax to rendezvous with other craft in orbit and docking mainly but I found it useful in many light body/ low gravity landings like astroids for staying level and side shifting into place without having to lean the craft.
Its also fun for futuristic ships as a flight assist option.
Few other things im forgetting im sure.

I use translation mode (virtual joystick with arrows, right?) when using RCS to decrease vertical velocity during last phases of landing or when exercising docking (with extra poor results so far)….when else may translation mode help?

@RedBlueMax dont forget the translation option also.
Its very helpful in the right situations.
Worth playing with to understand how it works.

    Thanks a lot!
If I switch off the gyro, I still have same problems with RCS (change of inclination and of apoapsis) so I will follow your suggestion of turning off RCS until I really need.

I turn them off until I need them.

Check out the options on the right side of the screen while in play.
    Theres one called translation mode.
It will allow you to use the rcs as direction thrust so you can stay facing forward and translate left right up down forward backward without the gyro turning you in that direction.
Otherwise the rcs takes over while not in translation mode and turns you in all kinds of directions as it fights the gyroscope.
    💥
If you have no gyro you will have to switch between translations to get directions or translations.
