So i had this idea of using a scaled jet engine for extra maneuverbility in low speed flights and sicc triccs but it also scaled the epic afterburner into a measley plume of sad plasma just outside of the nozzle.

hence, the title of the post: Is there a way to scale an engine without scaling its afterburner?

    @Zenithspeed
    Yes a good trick indeed.
    I was just trying to find an answer for @ColonelStriker
    The clipping would be necessary to create the effect desired in the first concept.

    @CloakPin as far as i know, the overlapping/obstructed inlet(s) issue hasn't been a problem since the "Occlusion" setting has been added (i am assuming you kind of already know, but for those who don't know what it does: it literally just lets you have the inlet, wing, etc ignore what's in front of it and essentially work if it had nothing in front of it)

    Another idea.
    Set afterburner to engage around 20% throttle and only use 40% throttle.

    Or

    Have a reversed facing engine in the craft that uses throttle to break so that it holds you back from so much speed

    Probably by clipping the engine and air intake with another part but it will be hard to fine tune.
    Often times when people build jets they mess up and overlap a part on the engines or air intakes.
    The result is a less powerful engine.
    I believe there is only so far you can clip the parts before the engine stops working all together.
    So you’ll get maybe a 50% decrease in thrust but clip any more and it just stops working.
