ksp docking is superior to SR2 docking, bc they have magnets that actually pull them together to connect, but now the ports dont seem to connect at all even with direct extended contact

@MarioG I would be interested in seeing a bug report where the RCS freaks out when locking on the target.

@MarioG hm, I think the magnetic force is good enough, of course having a larger field can help but that would be very unrealistic. I'm not sure if they fixed it but at least in the past there were some bugs related to docking a craft with itself

@AndrewGarrison mclovin has had this problem aswell not sure what mods he has. The magnetic force seems to be close to nothing for me. And if i lock to target orientation when in translation mode it makes rcs freak out i checked pilot orientation to see if that was what caused it, the port stats that it is docked when it is not, i have managed to dock by disabling and reactivating both while reloading several times until it work, very annoying bug

There is actually a magnetic force in SR2 to as well. Have you tried targeting the docking port and then setting nav sphere to lock on Target? It makes docking a lot easier. I cannot repro the issue you have here. Have you been able to repro this in a sandbox that does not have mods?
