I’d like to suggest adding a buoyancy control device (similar to real-life ballast tanks) for use with submersibles, seaplanes, airships, and hybrid crafts.
Core idea:
The device would allow players to actively control buoyancy by taking in or releasing water or air from the environment, instead of relying only on fixed mass or drag.
How it would work:
The device can be activated whenever the craft is in water or air.
When set to “Fill”, it absorbs water (underwater) or air (in atmosphere) from the surroundings.
The absorbed medium is stored in an internal tank (similar to how generators use fuel, but the “fuel” is the environment itself).
When set to “Release”, the stored water/air is expelled back into the environment.
Once fully drained, the tank can be refilled again.
Gameplay effects:
Filling the tank increases mass / decreases buoyancy → craft sinks or descends.
Releasing the contents reduces mass / increases buoyancy → craft rises or ascends.
Could enable:
Proper submarines
Adjustable-depth underwater stations
Airships with fine altitude control
Amphibious vehicles that transition smoothly between air and water
